Family of Boy with Level 3 Severe Autism Experiences Unforgettable Trip Thanks to Sunshine Foundation
Christian Kowalczyk, a young boy living with Level 3 Severe Autism, recently experienced the trip of a lifetime to the Central Florida Theme Parks, a “Magical Dream” granted by the Sunshine Foundation. This incredible journey provided Christian and his family with a much-needed opportunity to relax, connect, and create cherished memories.
Christian’s parents expressed profound gratitude for the experience, highlighting the unique challenges and joys of their trip. “Thank you for giving Christian and our family this incredible trip to Florida. Every one of us had an amazing time,” they shared. “With two boys on the autism spectrum, life can get a little hectic, but for the first time, they were able to truly relax and just enjoy themselves.”

Among the many highlights, Christian’s parents noted that waking up and spending time at the miniature golf course quickly became Christian’s favorite spot in the Dream Village, the Sunshine Foundation’s unique lodging near Disney. Meeting characters at the theme parks was also a major joy for Christian, with his face lighting up each time he recognized someone familiar.
The family of Hammond, Indiana, was particularly touched by the thoughtful extras, from delicious restaurant meals to a magical makeover by the Fairy Godmother. “This entire trip has been such a blessing, and we can’t thank our sponsor and the Sunshine Foundation enough for making us feel so cared for in such a special way,” Christian’s parents added.
The Sunshine Foundation is dedicated to answering the dreams of children with lifelong severe chronic illnesses and conditions, including but not limited to spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Level 3 severe autism, Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, severe epilepsy, Sickle Cell Disease, blindness, deafness, and trauma from abuse. Unlike some other wish-granting organizations, the Sunshine Foundation does not require a life-threatening or critical diagnosis, ensuring more children can experience their “Dream Come True.”

Christian’s magical trip was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Sunshine Foundation All-Volunteer Ocean City Cape Atlantic NJ chapter. The organization relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations, and corporations to make these dreams a reality.
While the most common request is a “Magical Dream” to visit Legoland, Universal Studios, Disney World, and SeaWorld with a stay at the Sunshine Foundation Dream Village, the organization also fulfills “Special Dreams.”
These include shopping sprees, computers and iPads, outdoor playsets, above-ground swimming pools, family trips, cruises, adaptive tricycles, and other special needs equipment.
Since its inception in 1976, the Sunshine Foundation has brought joy into the lives of over 43,280 children across the United States. The organization proudly holds a perfect 100% score on Charity Navigator and an “A” rating on CharityWatch, solidifying its reputation as a top-rated wish-granting organization in America.
