Law enforcement agents in Memphis were busy on Tuesday, arresting 40 people and taking six illegal firearms off the street. The operation was part of the Memphis Safe Task Force’s ongoing effort to reduce crime in the city.

One of the main arrests involved 40-year-old Mario Pierre Jackson. Officers found him at a hotel on Breedlove Street. Jackson was wanted on several warrants, including burglary and theft.

Authorities say he is a suspect in a string of home break-ins that happened between October and December of 2025. Many of those break-ins were caught on home security cameras and shown on the news.

Police also arrested 24-year-old Cortez Anderson at an apartment on West Faronia Square. Officers went there to serve a warrant for aggravated assault.

During the arrest, they spotted a gun out in the open. This led to a search of the apartment, where they found illegal drugs and two more handguns. Anderson now faces multiple charges, including possession of drugs with intent to sell and possession of a firearm during a felony.

In a separate arrest on Cromwell Road, officers caught Terrance Newsome. The 27-year-old is facing serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Investigators allege that Newsome shot at his girlfriend while they were driving separate cars on January 17. He is also accused of going to her house later that day and assaulting her.

“The Task Force continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners and arrest suspects who choose to terrorize Memphians,” U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller said. “We are committed to the work of safer neighborhoods across this community.”

The Memphis Safe Task Force is a team that includes federal, state, and local police, along with the Tennessee National Guard. Since the group launched in September 2025, they have made 5,457 arrests and seized 885 guns. They also work to locate missing children and have found 148 children so far.
