POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Polk County Sheriff’s Office has announced the conclusion of two major anti-drug initiatives, Operation Bloodline and Operation Flatline, which effectively dismantled a multi-county trafficking network.
The dual operations resulted in 51 arrests and the recovery of approximately 78 pounds of methamphetamine and over 14 pounds of fentanyl. Detectives also seized 13 firearms and $20,000 in cash during the crackdown.
The investigation into Operation Bloodline began in August 2025, when the Polk County Sheriff’s Office High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (H.I.D.T.A.) Task Force focused on Jemarion Young of Winter Haven. Young, identified by officials as a gang leader, was allegedly operating a distribution ring alongside Bartow resident Spencer Leonard, Jr. The network’s reach extended well beyond Polk County, touching Hillsborough, Osceola, Orange, Volusia, and Pasco counties.
To break the ring, local detectives collaborated with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and statewide prosecutors.

The team utilized wiretaps, surveillance, and undercover buys funded by the State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (SAFE) grant. These efforts eventually exposed a supply chain moving methamphetamine from California into Central Florida. On December 15, 2025, law enforcement intercepted a 10-pound shipment of meth intended for the group.
Parallel to this, Operation Flatline was launched following a near-fatal incident in Lake Wales. On December 23, 2025, 42-year-old Angela Valenta was found unresponsive in a hotel room after allegedly consuming fentanyl. Valenta remains hospitalized with minimal brain activity.
Investigators traced the drugs back to William Benjamin Newton, Jr., who was already under scrutiny for other overdose cases. Newton now faces charges related to the seizure of 6.1 pounds of fentanyl and 1.4 pounds of cocaine. Authorities noted that if Valenta does not recover, Newton could face first-degree murder charges.
Several high-profile figures were among the 51 taken into custody. Jemarion Young faces a long list of charges, including racketeering and multiple counts of trafficking.
Others arrested include Michael Wells and Steven Jackson, who investigators describe as key suppliers and associates. The sweep also snagged Joshua Puckelwartz, a Tampa-based rapper known as “Tommi Boy Wayne,” who was apprehended after a vehicle pursuit and crash on I-275 involving 12 pounds of methamphetamine.
The operations highlighted the issue of recidivism, as two suspects—Bruce Young and Jerell Carr—had been released from prison for previous trafficking convictions just months before their recent arrests. Carr was taken back into custody in January 2026 after a high-speed chase ended in a crash in Lakeland.
“Traffickers of methamphetamine and fentanyl are literally murdering people and tearing apart families,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. “The men and women who go after these drug dealers are doing a noble, but dangerous job—putting their own lives on the line, to protect their communities from the drug traffickers who are profiting from this destruction.”
ORIGINAL REPORT: Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd will host a press conference on Friday at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the culmination of a massive multi-agency effort targeting illegal narcotics and gang activity.
The briefing will feature Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, State Attorney Brian Haas, and FDLE Special Agent in Charge Mark Brutnell.
Together, they are expected to outline how a coordinated strike led to more than 48 arrests and the seizure of substantial quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, firearms, and cash.

The scale of the operation is reflected in the nearly 20 agencies involved, ranging from local police departments in Auburndale and Winter Park to federal heavyweights like the DEA and the ATF.
While the statistics of the bust are significant, the announcement is expected to carry a heavy personal weight. Sheriff Judd is slated to discuss the cases of four specific fentanyl overdose victims whose lives were cut short by the types of substances recovered during the investigation.
