A man has been charged with third-degree assault following a scary moment at a town hall meeting in Minneapolis on Tuesday. The incident happened while Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was speaking to her constituents.

The man, wearing a black jacket, walked up and sprayed an unknown substance on her before security guards and people nearby rushed to stop him.

The room erupted into chaos for a few moments. The man was quickly tackled to the ground, and the audience actually cheered as he was pinned down and his arms were tied behind his back.

This attack happened just moments after Omar spoke about some very heated political topics. She had just called for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, criticizing how she has handled immigration enforcement in Minnesota.

Omar also stated that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, should be abolished, telling the crowd, “ICE cannot be reformed.”

Despite the attack, Omar says she is okay.

She confirmed she was unharmed and returned to finish the town hall after the man was removed. She stated clearly that she will not be intimidated by violence.

Lawmakers from both political parties were quick to speak out against the attack, emphasizing that political disagreements should never turn violent.
