New Canaan is an affluent town located approximately one hour from New York City. The community is known to have been home to several public figures, including musicians Harry Connick Jr. and Paul Simon, and was a childhood home for actors Katherine Heigl and Christopher Lloyd.
The town was previously the location of the 2019 disappearance of 57-year-old mother Jennifer Dulos. Her husband, Fotis Dulos, was arrested and charged with murder in the case but died by suicide before he could face trial. Jennifer Dulos was legally pronounced dead in 2023.
The investigation into the murder involving Sebastian Van Stockum is ongoing.
