TAMPA, Fla. – A man committed suicide at a Tampa park just after 3:30 PM Thursday, according to Police.
Police say that a male subject dialed 911 and informed dispatch he was going to shoot himself at Rome and Sligh Park.
When officers arrived, they located the man sitting on a park bench by himself. The park was evacuated and several roads were blocked off. A private school, adjacent to the park, was placed on lockdown.
Negotiators made contact with the subject, but were unsuccessful in attempts to save him.
Police say that the roads again open but the park remains closed.
The shooting remains under investigation and we will update this story as details are released.
