Man Stabbed In The Face During Altercation In Winter Haven, Suspect Sought

POLK COUNTY, FL. – Polk County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect that is wanted after stabbing a man in the face.

According to Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Friday morning, around 7:00 AM, in the area of Gerber Dairy Road and Bomber Road in the Wahneta area of Winter Haven, an altercation took place between two men.

Deputies say the argument escalated and one man stabbed the other in the face.

The victim was treated at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say the suspect was identified as 39-year old Carmelo Fernandez-Lopez, also known as “Melo”.

Other aliases include: Cruz Fuentes, Eric Mendoza, and King Melo.Carmelo Fernandez-Lopez is a dangerous person, and detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office are eager to take him off the streets and behind bars as soon as possible.

Investigators say that they have been looking for this suspect in a previous case from 2020 on Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.

His criminal history includes arrests for Aggravated Assault on LEO, Grand Theft of Motor Vehicle, Robbery, Fleeing to elude, Resisting/Obstruction with violence, and Narcotics.

He is easily recognizable due to his various head and neck tattoos. He’s listed as being 5’3”, and about 170 pounds. His goatee is shorter than the attached photo.
