MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Marion County jury has found a 40-year-old man, Cody Allen McGuigan, guilty on multiple felony charges, including trafficking over 200 grams of methamphetamine. The conviction, which was announced on September 17, 2025, followed an investigation by the Marion County Unified Drug Enforcement Task Force (UDEST) that began in early 2024.

McGuigan was convicted of Trafficking Fentanyl over 14 Grams, Trafficking Methamphetamine 200 Grams or More, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Unlawful Use of a Two-way Communication Device.

He has been remanded into custody and will await sentencing after a presentence investigation is completed. Due to the nature of the charges, McGuigan faces a minimum-mandatory sentence of 20 years in state prison.

The investigation into McGuigan’s activities began in February 2024 when UDEST agents, using court-authorized wiretaps on a suspected drug supplier’s phone, intercepted communications. According to agents, McGuigan was overheard arranging a significant purchase of narcotics from the supplier.

On the night of February 13, 2024, surveillance agents observed a vehicle traveling to and then leaving the suspected drug supplier’s residence shortly after midnight. A UDEST agent relayed the information to patrol officers. A short time later, Marion County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Bosnyak located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop after discovering the registered owner had a suspended license.

Upon making contact with the driver, Deputy Bosnyak detected the distinct odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a cereal box and a purse on the floor of the rear passenger seat where McGuigan had been seated. Inside, law enforcement found multiple plastic bags containing a total of over 300 grams of methamphetamine and more than 15 grams of fentanyl, along with additional bags of fentanyl and cocaine.

The evidence collected from the search was central to the prosecution’s case. Following the jury’s verdict, McGuigan was taken into custody to await his fate.
