Man Faces 16 Years in Prison for Fatal Shooting of Victim in D.C. Apartment
A Maryland man, Keyon Slaughter, 28, pleaded guilty to the December 2022 murder of Dana Bailey, Jr. The plea agreement, which is subject to court approval, recommends a 16-year prison sentence.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 29, 2025. Following his prison term, Slaughter will face five years of supervised release.

According to court documents, on December 5, 2022, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Slaughter entered Mr. Bailey’s residence at 3224 E Street Southeast, Washington, D.C.
Inside the apartment, Slaughter confronted Mr. Bailey and fatally shot him once in the chest with a .40 caliber handgun. After the shooting, Slaughter fled the apartment and subsequently left the District of Columbia for North Carolina.
At the time of the murder, Slaughter was involved in a relationship with Mr. Bailey’s wife, who was also indicted in connection with the case and has since pleaded guilty to obstructing justice. Furthermore, Slaughter was on supervised probation for a 2019 armed robbery conviction in Charles County, Maryland, when the murder occurred.

Slaughter was arrested in July 2023 and has remained in detention since his arrest.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Homicide Branch and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles R. Jones.
