Maryland Teen Arrested After Leaving Infant Home Alone For McDonald’s Hangout

An Aberdeen, Maryland, teenager faces child neglect charges after authorities say she left a 6-month-old baby home alone to go meet up with friends at a McDonald’s.

Kira Faust, 19, was arrested on Monday. The Aberdeen Police Department responded to a property after receiving a report about an infant left at home alone.

“Upon arrival, officers located the infant unattended in unsafe and unsanitary living conditions,” the Aberdeen Police Department said in a statement.

Investigators tracked Faust down with help from the Bel Air Police Department. According to police, Faust told officers she left the infant alone so she could see friends at a McDonald’s located in Bel Air. The fast-food restaurant sits roughly 10 miles away from the home where the baby was discovered.

“Aberdeen Police took temporary custody of the child, and UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Aberdeen provided officers with essential baby supplies while Child Protective Services worked to secure a safe placement for the child,” the police statement said.

Authorities charged Faust with child neglect. Court records show she was later released on her own recognizance.

Local police have not yet detailed the exact relationship between Faust and the 6-month-old child. Public LinkedIn records indicate Faust’s most recent employment was as a daycare teacher at the Churchville Presbyterian Preschool and Daycare in Aberdeen.

The daycare facility has not responded to requests for comment regarding the arrest.
