Massive Memphis Takedown: 46 Arrested And A Ton Of Weed Seized In Single Day

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A major coordinated sweep across Memphis on Wednesday resulted in 46 arrests and the recovery of 12 illegal firearms, marking one of the busiest days for the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) since its inception.

Among those taken into custody was 21-year-old Christion Douglas. Authorities tracked Douglas to the 4200 block of Kenosha Road, where he was arrested on a warrant for second-degree homicide. The charge stems from a fatal shooting that occurred nearly a year ago on Quince Road. During the apprehension, officers seized an AR-15 rifle and a 9 mm pistol.

The operation also extended to the FedEx Memphis hub. In a joint effort with Shelby County officials and FedEx security, the task force intercepted and recovered approximately 2,000 pounds of marijuana.

While the day saw dozens of suspects moved off the streets, law enforcement remains focused on a high-profile manhunt for 40-year-old Danell Maxwell.

Maxwell is wanted for the attempted first-degree murder of a Memphis Police Department officer during a February traffic stop. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the MSTF are currently offering a combined reward of $32,500 for information that leads to his capture.

Maxwell is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, and was last seen wearing a distinctive orange and green reflective vest. Officials warn that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The MSTF was launched in September 2025 as a massive multi-agency partnership including local police, federal agents, and the Tennessee National Guard. Since it began, the initiative has reported 7,751 total arrests. The breakdown of those charges includes 47 homicides, 848 drug offenses, and 680 firearms violations.

Beyond arrests, the task force has focused heavily on community recovery, reporting that 150 missing children have been located through their efforts over the last several months. To date, the group has taken 1,271 illegal guns out of circulation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on Maxwell or other fugitives to submit tips via the USMS Tips mobile app.
