Education has become scray as hell around the country. In fact, one could argue that in some districts, teachers and counselors are less worried about education and more worried about being social justice warriors.
Latest example? Oregon.
Two middle school counselors made a TikTok video at work showing themselves apparently flipping off anti-LGBTQ parents. Too much time on their hands, maybe.
Annie Bynum and Erin Dobias, both guidance counselors for Newberg Public Schools, have been placed on administrative leave from the district.
“Last Thursday, the district became aware of a highly offensive video made by two employees. As we stated last week, the employees were placed on administrative leave and the district immediately launched an investigation using a third-party investigator,” said Newberg Public Schools in a statement.
“The district is taking this situation very seriously and we will follow our policies and procedures as we complete our investigation into this matter. We cannot, however, share the outcome of a personnel matter publicly. Language, gestures, and tone such as what was on display in the video are unprofessional and highly offensive. Regardless of personal views, our expectation is for our employees to maintain respectful and professional communication at all times while representing the district and our community. The use of school property, even if outside of school hours, should not be used for personal expression of the type seen in the video.”
“As counselors, shouldn’t they be striving to set an example to young, impressionable students? Instead, they create garbage like this on taxpayer property to display publicly. This is a prime example of why I pulled my kids from NPS. I will not allow people like this to have any influence over my kids,” said parent Jessica Klus in response to the video.
“Wait…these are school counselors?! Exactly who people want telling their children how to navigate emotions and behaviors. Class act,” Laura Olson wrote on a Facebook account called Save Our Schools Newberg.
We will also note on the video caption, the pair spelled “aloud” as opposed to “allowed”. Maybe the video isn’t the largest worry here.
