McMahon Doubles Down: ‘Common Sense’ Sports Bans And A Plan To Scrap The Dept. Of Ed.

U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon appeared on FOX News Channel’s The Will Cain Show Tuesday to address two of the most contentious issues facing the American school system: the legal battle over transgender athletes in women’s sports and the looming plan to dismantle the Department of Education entirely.

Speaking with host Will Cain, McMahon offered a staunch defense of state-level bans on transgender athletes in female sports categories, a matter currently under review by the U.S. Supreme Court. McMahon characterized the issue as boiling down to “common sense,” arguing that biological differences are immutable.

“There are boys and there are girls. They are anatomically different,” McMahon told Cain. She reiterated the administration’s stance that protecting female athletics is about preserving fairness and safety, referencing President Trump’s executive orders on the matter.

McMahon highlighted the physical risks involved, citing specific instances where female athletes were injured during mixed-sex competition, including a volleyball player who she noted suffered long-term damage. Beyond safety, she argued that allowing biological males to compete displaces female athletes who have spent their lives vying for scholarships, sponsorships, and Olympic roster spots.

“To be displaced by men being able to participate in women’s sports is just patently unfair,” McMahon said, asserting that Title IX was designed specifically to protect these opportunities.

The interview shifted from policy enforcement to institutional survival. Cain pressed the Secretary on President Trump’s mandate to shut down the Department of Education within the next three years.

McMahon confirmed the administration is moving aggressively toward that objective. “We certainly are working towards that goal, if not before then,” she stated.

She also took the opportunity to clarify what dissolving the department actually means, pushing back against the narrative that the administration is trying to “get rid of education.” According to McMahon, the plan is strictly about removing the “bureaucracy from Washington, D.C.” rather than cutting financial support.

She assured viewers that federal funds appropriated by Congress—such as Title I and IDEA funding—would continue to flow to the states. The difference, she explained, is that the money would bypass the Department of Education and likely move through other agencies, though accountability rules and regulations would remain in force.

“It clearly is the goal to take out the bureaucracy… so that more of that money goes directly to the states and to the kids,” McMahon concluded.
