A Florida man learned the hard way that “having it your way” doesn’t include using the drive-through staff as a spittoon.
Fredrick Gartenmayer, 46, of Key West, was hauled off to jail Thursday, proving that a bad attitude at the service window can have a very long, very legal shelf life.
The drama began back on the night of March 17, 2026, at a McDonald’s in Marathon. Around 10:14 p.m., Gartenmayer pulled up to the window for what should have been a standard hand-off of fries and burgers.
Instead, the victim reported that Gartenmayer grabbed his bag, tossed a comment toward the worker, and punctuated the interaction by spitting directly into the employee’s face.

While Gartenmayer drove off into the night, the law wasn’t far behind. After a few weeks of investigation and a freshly inked warrant, deputies finally caught up with him on April 9.
Now facing a battery charge, the 46-year-old has traded the Golden Arches for iron bars.
