TAMPA, Fla. – A Tampa man was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries Friday morning after suffering a medical episode while driving on Interstate 275.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were called to the scene just south of Hillsborough Avenue shortly after 7:30 a.m.
According to investigators, the 74-year-old was traveling northbound in a Jeep Compass when the medical emergency occurred. The driver lost control of the SUV, which veered out of the travel lanes and collided head-on with a crash attenuator at the Exit 47A ramp.

First responders transported the man to a local area hospital. His current condition is listed as serious.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
