First Lady Melania Trump delivered a call for national unity and a renewed focus on the next generation during the 113th First Lady’s Luncheon, an event that gathered Congressional spouses, Cabinet officials, and business leaders in Washington D.C.
Using the platform to highlight her recent policy achievements, Mrs. Trump stressed that individual effort is insufficient to tackle modern challenges.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as First Lady but understand that my persistence alone is not enough,” she stated. “Together, we can change people’s lives for the better.”
The First Lady’s remarks focused heavily on the intersection of technology, international diplomacy, and the foster care system. She noted her leadership in four separate reunifications of Ukrainian and Russian children with their families, calling the displacement caused by the war a “horrible” situation that required persistence from both nations to resolve.

Turning toward domestic technology, she highlighted the White House AI Workshop, which has reached nearly 3,000 schools. Mrs. Trump urged educators and parents to embrace the shifting digital landscape, noting, “We are not here to prepare our children for yesterday’s world. Be purposeful with your objectives and remember that AI accelerates everything.”
The luncheon served as a follow-up to the First Lady’s recent bipartisan work on Capitol Hill. Last week, she met with the House Ways and Means Committee to advocate for new foster care legislation.
This legislative push follows her “Fostering the Future” Executive Order and the expansion of university scholarship programs for foster youth across 16 states, including Texas, Florida, and New York.
She specifically thanked Representative Steve Womack and Secretary Scott Turner for their roles in securing $30 million in the HUD 2026 budget to support housing for youth aging out of the foster system.

Throughout the event, Mrs. Trump underscored her “BE BEST” Fostering the Future initiative, noting that all 50 states are now participating in the Presidential AI Challenge. She also highlighted the success of the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which saw its first Department of Justice conviction on April 7th.
In a nod to global cooperation, she mentioned a recent summit at the White House that brought together leaders from 50 nations and major tech firms like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta.
Closing her address, the First Lady linked the well-being of children directly to national security, telling the audience, “America’s children will ultimately protect our future freedom.”
