Melania Trump, Kentucky Rep. James Comer Push For Showdown In Epstein Investigation

The push for transparency regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case gained significant momentum this week as House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer backed a public demand from Melania Trump to bring survivors before Congress.

In a public statement released Thursday, the former First Lady denied any personal connection to the late disgraced financier and urged lawmakers to provide a platform for victims to offer sworn, public testimony about his activities. Kentucky Representative Comer responded Friday, aligning himself with Trump’s position and confirming that the Oversight Committee is moving forward with plans for open hearings. He noted that his legal team has been in constant communication with attorneys representing the victims for several months to coordinate the logistics of these proceedings.

“I’ve always planned on having hearings with the victims,” Comer said. While acknowledging that many survivors prefer to remain private, he emphasized that some are ready to speak once the initial deposition phase is wrapped up. He also hinted that the investigation is widening, stating that “high-profile men” are still expected to be brought in for questioning as the committee continues its work.

Survivors of Epstein’s abuse have already begun reacting to the development.

Alicia Arden, who has been vocal about her experiences, praised the former First Lady for using her platform to advocate for a formal hearing. Arden expressed a strong willingness to testify under oath and suggested that a public setting is necessary for others to share their accounts.

“I’m really happy and really quite proud of Melania to call for a hearing so that if we want to… testify before Congress about what Jeffrey Epstein did to me, the other victims can come with me,” Arden stated.

The Oversight Committee has not yet released a specific calendar for the public portion of the inquiry, but Comer’s remarks suggest the schedule will be finalized as soon as current private depositions are completed.

For now, the rare alignment between the former First Lady and the Oversight Chairman has placed renewed pressure on the investigation to deliver a public accounting of the events surrounding the Epstein case.
