Memorial Day Beach Hangout Ends In Felony Arrest For Florida Teen

An 18-year-old Florida man faces a felony charge after a Memorial Day weekend hangout on Miami Beach escalated into a knife-point pursuit. Misael Algel Aguilar Santurio was arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated assault following a dispute that began with throwing sand.

According to police arrest affidavits, Santurio was at the beach with a group of friends when he began throwing sand at 18-year-old Yarielys Riobo. After Riobo asked him to stop, she threw sand back at him. Investigators state that Santurio then told Riobo he was “going to gut her,” reached into his backpack, and pulled out a rainbow-colored pocket knife.

Police say Santurio then chased Riobo across the beach with the open blade. The pursuit ended when two male friends in the group tackled Santurio to the ground and disarmed him, while another teenage girl grabbed the weapon to keep it out of his reach. A bystander witnessed the altercation and called 911.

When officers arrived, they noted that the two teenagers who tackled Santurio had sustained minor injuries, though both declined to press charges. Authorities reported that Santurio resisted arrest and refused to speak with officers, stating that he needed to call his mother first.

Reflecting on the altercation, Riobo later spoke to local independent news station WPLG. “I knew he had anger issues from the beginning,” Riobo said.

Santurio appeared at a bond hearing on Tuesday, where a judge ordered him to remain at least 500 feet away from Riobo as a condition of his release. Santurio has since posted bond and is no longer in custody.
