Meijer has issued a voluntary recall of several packages of Frederik’s Dark Chocolate Almonds across six states due to the undeclared presence of cashews. The grocery chain initiated the recall after a customer reported finding chocolate-covered cashews mixed in with the almonds, posing a serious risk to individuals with cashew allergies.

The recall impacts Frederik’s by Meijer Dark Chocolate Almonds (12 oz, UPC 7-08820-68730-1) with sell-by dates of May 7, 2026, and May 28, 2026, as well as Frederik’s Dark Chocolate Almonds 8-count (1.5 oz, UPC 7-19283-11923-0) with a sell-by date of May 5, 2026.

The FDA warns that people with a cashew allergy or severe sensitivity could experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. While no illnesses have been reported so far, the FDA may classify this as a Class I recall, indicating a reasonable probability of severe adverse health consequences or death.

Nut allergies are a leading cause of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction that can lead to hives, low blood pressure, dizziness, and life-threatening breathing difficulties. Customers with cashew allergies are urged to avoid consuming the recalled products and return them to any Meijer store for a full refund.
