A 64-year-old Michigan man died Monday morning following a diving incident in the waters off Marathon, Florida.
Stephen Matheny, a resident of West Bloomfield Township, was found unresponsive in the water at approximately 11:20 a.m. First responders and bystanders pulled Matheny from the water and immediately began CPR.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene and assisted with emergency transport. Matheny was taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon, where medical staff pronounced him dead.
Local authorities stated that foul play is not believed to be a factor in the death.
