Father Charged After Alleged Brutal Beating of Son
A 38-year-old father, Cedric Diequell-Stevens Moore, is facing child abuse charges after allegedly beating his 9-year-old son with a belt and choking him until he lost consciousness, reportedly because the boy “fell asleep on the couch.”
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office responded on June 26 after the injured 9-year-old sought help at a neighbor’s residence. Authorities discovered multiple injuries on the child, including welts on his torso, and critical abrasions to his eye and neck.

The victim told deputies his father became enraged over him falling asleep, then proceeded to beat him with a belt on his face, back, legs, and buttocks, strike him with a broom handle, and choke him until he passed out.
Moore allegedly told his son the abuse would continue “all night.”
Moore reportedly left the 9-year-old and his 1-year-old brother home alone to go to the store. The older child also reported that his father had “thrown” the baby into his crib because he was crying from hunger. Deputies observed cigarette burns on the 1-year-old boy’s back and legs.

Moore was arrested later that evening at a family member’s house, where he reportedly claimed he had been “whooping” his son for stealing.
He is charged with second and fourth-degree child abuse and is being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
