Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s recent visit to Miami, where she indicated an interest in engaging with the state’s “Red” communities, has drawn sharp criticism from the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF).

RPOF Chairman Evan Power released a statement Monday, slamming Whitmer’s trip and her remarks, suggesting the Governor’s past actions are at odds with the state she is now visiting.

Gretchen Whitmer loved Florida’s freedom so much she vacationed here during her own lockdowns. Now she’s back trashing our leadership and trying to bring the same failed policies Floridians have already rejected,” Power stated.

Whitmer was quoted during her visit as saying she’s “not writing off a community because it looks Red,” suggesting a strategic focus on parts of the state generally considered Republican strongholds.

Power dismissed the effort, calling Democrats “delusional” and highlighting the state’s significant Republican registration advantage.

“Florida has nearly 1.4 million more registered Republicans than Democrats because voters have made their choice clear. The Left has no path forward in the Sunshine State, because Floridians want freedom,” he asserted.

The RPOF Chairman then contrasted the policies of the two states, criticizing Michigan’s policies on taxes, lockdowns, constitutional rights, school choice, and transgender participation in sports.

“Florida doesn’t want Michigan’s high taxes, lockdowns, assaults on our Constitutional rights, restrictions on school choice, or the craziness of allowing boys in girls’ sports and men in women’s bathrooms. Floridians want freedom, opportunity, and common sense,” Power’s statement read.

Power concluded by praising Governor Ron DeSantis’s approach during the pandemic, contrasting it with Whitmer’s lockdown measures.

“While Whitmer was shutting down small businesses and silencing critics, Governor DeSantis kept Florida open and thriving. We’ll keep protecting families, defending freedom, and leading the way,” he said.
