One of the largest concentrations of Arab Americans in the United States resides in Dearborn, a city close to Detroit, where a Michigan man was taken into custody after he allegedly threatened violence against Palestinian Americans in a social media post.
According to a press release from the Dearborn Police Department, Carl David Mintz, 39, is charged with one count of felony threat of terrorism and one count of misdemeanor malicious use of a telecom device.
Mintz was arrested by Dearborn Police at his home in Farmington Hills on Thursday, Oct. 12, after posting a threat on social media that proposed violence against Palestinian-American residents of Dearborn.
The post was identified via an anonymous tip shared with the Dearborn Police Department on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud stated, “Threats of violence against our community will not be tolerated. We are pleased to see that the charges filed this weekend reflect the severity of the message of hate that this individual chose to post online last week.”
Dearborn Chief of Police Issa Shahin added, “We take all threats very seriously. Although we are currently unaware of any further credible threats, we have increased police patrols across the city and at all places of worship in the interest of the public safety and security of Dearborn’s residents, workers, and visitors.”
Mintz was given a GPS tether device and prohibited from using the internet or owning a gun as part of his bond requirements.
At 42% of the total population, Dearborn is home to one of the largest Arab American populations in the United States. The city’s first Arab-American mayor was chosen in 2021.
