A 43-year-old Michigan man, David Scott Jr., has been arrested and charged after allegedly becoming “enraged” and threatening to shoot up his son’s elementary school over a missed snack time.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Pleasantview Elementary School in Eastpointe, Michigan. Authorities say Scott arrived at the school and confronted his son’s teacher, making verbal threats because the first-grader did not have enough time to finish his snack.

Eastpointe Police say Scott was “screaming, cursing, and threatening” in front of staff and parents, allegedly stating he would return the next day to “air the place out”—a phrase interpreted by police as a threat to commit a shooting.

Scott faces charges including making an intentional threat to commit an act of violence against a school and being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, as police found multiple rounds at his home.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido condemned the threats, stating, “There is absolutely no excuse for threatening violence against a school or its staff—especially over something as minor as a classroom snack.”

Scott’s bond was set at $150,000 cash or surety, and he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. The child’s mother defended Scott, claiming the situation was “blown completely out of proportion” despite acknowledging he “may have overreacted.”
