A massive escalation in Middle East hostilities erupted Tuesday as Iran launched what state media described as its “most intense and heaviest operation” since the current conflict began. The strikes targeted both Israel and various Gulf nations, marking a significant widening of the theater of war.

In immediate retaliation, the Israeli military confirmed it carried out a fresh wave of airstrikes against targets within the Iranian capital of Tehran and a suburb of Beirut, Lebanon.

The maritime situation has become particularly volatile. Sources indicate that Iran has begun laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes.

The U.S. military reported that it intervened late Tuesday, destroying several Iranian naval ships, including 16 vessels specifically identified as mine-layers.

This military activity has brought commercial shipping in the strait to a virtual standstill. With the waterway effectively blocked, global oil and gas prices have remained at elevated levels as markets react to the supply disruption.

Security analysts are monitoring the region closely as both sides continue to exchange fire across multiple borders.
