ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A late-night shooting at a St. Petersburg apartment complex left a man fighting for his life after a private vehicle trying to rush him to the hospital had to be intercepted by paramedics at a nearby gas station.
Residents at The Meadows Apartments, located at 870 117th Terrace North, first alerted authorities at 1:27 a.m. after hearing several gunshots ring out.
Moments later, a caller contacted emergency dispatchers to report they had a gunshot victim in their car and were actively driving him toward a hospital.
St. Petersburg Fire Rescue crews coordinated with the driver and caught up to the vehicle at a Circle K gas station at 10600 Roosevelt Blvd North. Paramedics took over medical care at the scene, transporting the man the rest of the way to the hospital. Officials confirmed his injuries are life-threatening.
The St. Petersburg Police Department is treating the incident as an active and ongoing investigation. As of right now, no suspects are in custody.
