HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A 51-year-old Brooksville man died early Monday morning after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross State Road 50 in Hernando County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred just after midnight on Monday, June 22, 2026. Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that a Kia Telluride was traveling westbound on SR-50.
Just west of Deltona Boulevard, the 51-year-old Brooksville resident attempted to walk across the highway. According to state troopers, the pedestrian entered the direct path of the oncoming SUV and was struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the Kia Telluride was identified as a 65-year-old man from Spring Hill.
First responders noted that the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries from the impact and died at the scene of the crash. No further information regarding the identities of those involved has been provided by authorities.
