A Minneapolis child care center has become the unlikely focus of social media speculation and regulatory scrutiny this week after digital sleuths discovered its public contact information led directly to the office of Governor Tim Walz.
The facility, identified as Sweet Angel Child Care, went viral on Monday when users on X (formerly Twitter) noted that the phone number listed for the business on Google Maps connected callers to the governor’s administration rather than the day care itself. The anomaly surfaced shortly after YouTuber Nick Shirley featured the location in a video investigation released Friday, which sought to verify the legitimacy of several state-licensed businesses.
In the footage, Shirley attempts to inquire about services at the physical location of Sweet Angel Child Care. Upon knocking and stating, “I want to put my son, Joey, in day care,” a voice from behind the closed door simply responds, “Why?” The individual inside refused to open the door or answer further questions regarding enrollment, fueling skepticism about the facility’s daily operations.

While the Google Maps listing directed callers to the state capitol, the official licensing webpage managed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) lists a different phone number for Sweet Angel—one with a Nebraska area code. According to the Daily Caller News Foundation, that number leads to a voicemail box, and requests for comment have gone unanswered.
Beyond the communication confusion, state records reveal a history of regulatory issues at the center. Between May 2022 and December 2025, the DHS Office of the Inspector General reprimanded the facility for a series of violations.
Official reports indicate inspectors cited the center for issues including failure to provide proper supervision, ill-kept facilities that failed to meet safety codes, and a lack of required immunization documentation. On at least one occasion, inspectors noted that children had access to “hazardous objects.”
Despite these recurring infractions, the state has maintained Sweet Angel’s license. The facility was permitted to continue operating after submitting “correction” plans to address the violations. However, current records suggest the center has not yet submitted the necessary documentation following the most recent visit from the inspector general’s office.

Context of Scrutiny
The questions surrounding Sweet Angel Child Care arrive during a period of heightened sensitivity regarding Minnesota’s oversight of state-funded programs. In recent months, the state has drawn national media attention due to federal investigations into unrelated fraud schemes involving housing assistance and other welfare programs.
While Sweet Angel Child Care has not been implicated in any of those fraud cases, the irregularities regarding its contact information and the opacity of its physical operations have renewed discussions regarding the efficacy of oversight within the state’s welfare bureaucracy.
Governor Walz’s office has not yet issued a statement regarding the erroneous phone listing linking the administration to the private day care center.
