Minnesota prosecutors have obtained previously withheld federal evidence regarding the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during immigration protests earlier this year.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced Monday that federal agencies turned over hard drives containing witness statements, hours of body camera video, and physical evidence, including Good’s damaged vehicle.
Good was killed in her car on Jan. 7 during a Minneapolis protest, and Pretti was fatally shot by federal officers on Jan. 24.
“The wonderful thing now is we have all the evidence,” Moriarty said. “We need transparency. We need cooperation.”
The release follows a lawsuit by Moriarty and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison against the U.S. Department of Justice. Ellison criticized the timeline, stating, “It should never have taken this long for Minnesota law enforcement to gain access to the federal government’s evidence.”
The evidence also covers the Jan. 14 wounding of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis.
While no charges have been filed in the fatalities, ICE Agent Christian Castro faces assault charges for shooting Sosa-Celis, and Agent Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr. faces charges for pointing a gun at motorists in a separate April incident.
