Defiant Congresswoman refuses to apologize for condemning the slain conservative activist’s ‘legacy of hatred’
Calls for the deportation of “Squad” Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) have intensified after the third-term Democrat doubled down on her caustic criticism of slain conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk.
The former Somali refugee, who previously declared Republicans defending Kirk were “full of s**t,” stated that Kirk had “no legacy to honor,” further inflaming MAGA commentators who are urging U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to consider her removal from the country. Appearing on Don Lemon’s YouTube show, the defiant lawmaker was unapologetic when asked about demands for an apology. “I have nothing to apologize for,” Omar insisted, acknowledging the tragedy of Kirk’s assassination and expressing sympathy for his family.
However, she pivoted sharply to his public life. “But there is no legacy to honor. It was a legacy filled with bigotry, hatred, and white supremacy,” she continued. “And as a black woman and as a Muslim in this country, I refuse to join the chorus that changes the history of what is on the record from this man.”
Omar’s comments come after Kirk, known for challenging liberal students to debates on college campuses, was killed by a gunman in a widely reported, extremely violent attack. Omar suggested that those supporting Kirk’s legacy of “civil debate” are being disingenuous.
“These people are full of s**t and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness,” she told progressive outlet Zeteo, as the Tampa Free Press previously reported. She accused Kirk of spreading “hateful rhetoric” throughout his career and lambasted media figures for “normalizing Kirk” in their eulogies, calling him a “reprehensible human being” and a “stochastic terrorist.”
The wave of criticism has included a request from President Donald Trump last week to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to “take back” Omar to her native country.
Despite the pressure, Omar remains resolute, stating that the “crazy people” supporting Kirk can “do whatever they want to do,” but she would not be “bullied into complacency… just to, you know, make them feel comfortable.”
