Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar Under Fire After Massive $30 Million Disclosure ‘Glitch’

Questions are swirling on Capitol Hill after Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar filed an amended financial disclosure that slashed her reported net worth by tens of millions of dollars.

The initial filing, which valued her assets at up to $30 million, was recently corrected to show that she and her husband actually hold less than $100,000 in shared assets.

The massive discrepancy has drawn sharp criticism from House Republicans, including Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer. Speaking on Fox News “Hannity,” Comer questioned how a “multi-million dollar mistake” could pass through the review process unnoticed.

“Either her accountant went to one of those quality learning centers in Minnesota or she lied about it,” Comer said, referencing a recent fraud scandal involving Minnesota childcare centers. He noted that the digital filing system requires users to review and confirm their entries multiple times before submission. “If she lied about it, that’s a felony,” Comer added.

The fallout from the disclosure error has led to calls for further investigation. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer also weighed in on the controversy, suggesting that the scale of the error warrants her removal from office.

“Not only should her accountant be fired, but that girl should be fired and she does not deserve to be in Congress,” Emmer stated. He further argued that if Omar is found to have personally benefited from or been involved in any fraudulent activity, she should be held accountable to the fullest extent.

Comer indicated that the House Oversight Committee is not planning to let the matter drop. He suggested that if the filing was a genuine error caused by an accountant’s incompetence, Omar should cooperate with investigators as a whistleblower regarding wider welfare fraud schemes in her state.

“She’s never explained to the public how her net worth was $30 million and, if she made a mistake, how the mistake happened,” Comer said.
