Minnesota Tourist Dies After Losing Consciousness While Snorkeling In Florida

A snorkeling trip turned tragic this weekend when a 60-year-old Minnesota man died after losing consciousness in the waters off Marathon.

Eric Adams Anderson, of Zimmerman, Minnesota, was snorkeling near the Sombrero Key Lighthouse when the incident occurred on the afternoon of Dec. 27, 2025. According to authorities, Anderson became unresponsive in the water at approximately 3:37 p.m.

Lifesaving measures were started immediately at the scene. The U.S. Coast Guard transported Anderson to shore, but he did not survive.

Law enforcement officials stated that foul play is not suspected. An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death.
