LAKELAND, Fla. – A 24-year-old Lakeland man died Wednesday night after losing control of his motorcycle in a commerce park parking lot, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency crews from the Sheriff’s Office and Polk County Fire Rescue were called to the scene at 4000 Frontage Road South in Lakeland at approximately 7:38 p.m. First responders arrived within minutes to begin life-saving measures on the victim, who had been riding a red and white 2026 Yamaha YZFR7. He was transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries shortly after arrival.
A preliminary investigation by traffic deputies indicates that the incident began as the motorcyclist was exiting a parking lot into a commerce park exit lane.
While navigating the exit, the motorcycle made minor contact with the rear of a semi-truck trailer. The truck was stationary in the lane at the time, waiting to pull out onto Frontage Road South.
Though investigators noted the initial impact with the trailer was slight, it caused the rider to lose control of the motorcycle. Both the victim and the bike then struck a nearby curb.
Authorities confirmed the victim was wearing a helmet during the crash.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office stated that no charges are anticipated at this time. The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing.
