Missing Florida Toddler Found At U.S.-Mexico Border Months After December Disappearance

A months-long search for a missing one-year-old from Volusia County ended at the southern border late last week. On April 3, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office confirmed that little Itzayana is safe after authorities caught up with her mother, Doranelleli Gonzalez, as she reportedly attempted to cross into Mexico.

The case first made headlines back in December 2025. At that time, the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) secured a court order to take the toddler into state custody.

However, investigators believe her parents went on the run to evade that order. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office issued an urgent Missing Child Alert, asking the public for help finding the girl and her parents, Gonzalez and Jose Campo.

The breakthrough came when local detectives tracked leads suggesting Gonzalez was headed for the international boundary.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, “Detectives working this case learned that Doranelleli Gonzalez could be attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.” That tip was passed along to the U.S. Marshals, who intercepted the pair at the border.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed the resolution of the search in a statement, saying, “That information was relayed to the U.S. Marshals, which led them to make contact with Gonzalez and Itzayana at the border. Gonzalez was arrested on her warrant and Itzayana was taken into the custody of Child Protective Services.”

While the child is now in protective care, the legal fallout is just beginning. Officials noted that the original custody order and subsequent search “stems from allegations of potential child abuse.”

While Gonzalez is behind bars, the search for the father continues. Law enforcement officials stated that Jose Campo has not been taken into custody yet and his exact whereabouts remain unknown.
