A massive, multi-agency manhunt is actively underway across state lines as federal and local authorities track a 22-year-old man linked to a violent crime spree. The shootings occurred along Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri, just miles from Arrowhead Stadium while the venue was hosting FIFA World Cup matches.
The FBI’s Kansas City field office has put up a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect, identified as Oscar Sanchez-Munoz.
Law enforcement officials have issued a strict warning to the public, stating that Sanchez-Munoz should be considered “armed and dangerous.” Investigators describe him as a White and Hispanic male, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 184 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a distinct tattoo on his right forearm. Anyone who spots him is urged to immediately call 911 rather than approaching him.
The violence peaked on Tuesday night when five separate shootings were reported along I-70. The gunfire struck multiple vehicles, killing one person and critically injuring another. Among the victims expected to survive is an Uber driver who was shot in the leg while driving fans to the World Cup match between Argentina and Algeria.
The investigation connects these highway attacks to prior violent incidents in the region. Sanchez-Munoz was already wanted in Wyandotte County, Kansas, where a state warrant was issued after he allegedly shot at a vehicle on June 11. He faces charges there for criminal discharge of a firearm, alongside an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault that carries a $100,000 bond.
Following the Tuesday night shootings, the tracking of Sanchez-Munoz led police to a home in Independence, Missouri, sparking an intense, overnight standoff. During the confrontation, the house caught fire and burned.
On Wednesday morning, after fire crews put out the flames and cleared the structure, investigators searched the property with K-9 units and state fire marshals. While they successfully recovered the vehicle believed to be involved in the highway shootings, Sanchez-Munoz was nowhere to be found.
As of Saturday afternoon, the Kansas City Police Department and federal investigators have not released any details regarding a potential motive for the cross-state crime spree. Police are asking communities in both Missouri and Kansas to remain highly vigilant as the search continues.
