MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Nancy Alvarez has received the Florida Sheriffs Association Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of more than 40 years of service in law enforcement.
The award, presented by Sheriff Rick Ramsay, is reserved for law enforcement members who have accumulated at least four decades of total experience, including a minimum of 20 years served within a Florida sheriff’s office. Alvarez has served with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for approximately 40 years and two months.
Alvarez began her career with the agency as a 911 Communications Specialist while simultaneously volunteering as a Reserve Deputy. She later completed the Basic Law Enforcement Academy to transition into full-time sworn duty.
Throughout her career, Alvarez has held several leadership and specialized roles across the agency. Her assignments have included service in Road Patrol and Special Operations investigations, serving as Commander of District 7 in Key Largo, and working with the South Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas task force. She eventually transitioned into her role as an Intelligence Lieutenant and currently oversees the agency’s Court Security and Civil divisions.
“Anyone who knows me knows my goal is to keep our community and our officers safe and I love my job, even at three in the morning!” Alvarez said following the presentation.
Sheriff Ramsay commended Alvarez for her extensive career and dedication to the county.
“Lt. Nancy Alvarez and I have worked together many years and our friendship reflects our shared passion for the job,” Ramsay said. “She is truly deserving of this honor.”
