TAMPA, Fla. – Firefighters rushed to the 4300 block of Woodmere Drive early Tuesday morning after a single-story home was swallowed by heavy smoke and fire.
The call came in at 7:15 a.m., sending Tampa Fire Rescue units to a neighborhood where they were met with a building already fully engulfed in flames.
Upon arrival, the first teams on the scene realized the intensity of the heat and the speed of the spread made it too dangerous to enter.
Officials described the structure as an abandoned residence. Because of the “dangerous fire conditions presented on scene,” crews shifted to a defensive strategy, pouring water on the exterior to stop the blaze from jumping to nearby properties.

The tactical move worked. Firefighters managed to keep the flames contained to the original house, preventing a larger disaster in the residential area. It took about an hour of steady work to bring the situation under control.
Tampa Fire Rescue confirmed that no civilians were inside at the time, and no firefighters were injured while tackling the fire.
By mid-morning, the site was a shell of charred remains as investigators moved in. The Tampa Fire Marshal’s Office has taken over the scene to determine exactly how the fire started, and the cause remains under investigation.
