TAMPA, Fla. – A police response to gunfire on North Marion Street Friday ended with two men hospitalized and a local man in handcuffs. Tampa Police confirmed the arrest of 41-year-old Eric Gaddis, who was spotted fleeing the scene of the shooting in the 1200-block of the city’s downtown area.
The incident unfolded on April 17, 2026, when officers arrived at the scene to find two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency crews rushed both victims to a nearby hospital. According to investigators, one man has since been discharged, while the second victim remains in critical condition as of Saturday morning.

Patrol officers arriving at the scene reported seeing a man who matched the suspect’s description running away from the immediate area.
After a brief pursuit, they detained the individual, later identified as Gaddis. During questioning, Gaddis admitted to the shooting, reportedly telling investigators that “he shot the two men because he felt threatened.”
Gaddis is currently being held on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of resisting an officer without violence.
While an arrest has been made, Tampa Police noted that the investigation into the exact circumstances of the confrontation remains active.
