A babysitting arrangement turned into a criminal investigation in Toledo, Ohio, after a three-month-old boy was hospitalized with severe injuries. Kamariea Marshall now faces three counts of child endangerment following an incident that occurred in March while she was caring for the infant.
The child’s mother had asked Marshall to watch her son for three days so she could focus on packing her apartment ahead of scheduled renovations.
“I only had three days to pack my whole house up, so she had him for the three days that I was packing my house,” the mother told WTVG.
The situation took a turn when Marshall reportedly sent a text message to the mother questioning why the child had marks on his body—despite the infant having been in Marshall’s care for several days.
Marshall eventually took the baby to a local hospital, but the scene that awaited the mother was harrowing. “When I walked in that room, they said that he wasn’t breathing,” she recalled.

Medical professionals discovered a laundry list of injuries on the infant, including fractured ribs, bruising on his chest, scratches on his face, and a bite mark on his leg. Suspecting physical abuse, hospital staff alerted the authorities.
According to the mother, Marshall attempted to tell hospital employees that she simply believed the boy was sick.
At the time of the incident, Marshall was already on probation for previous convictions involving theft and assault. Following an indictment in April, she turned herself in to the Adult Probation department on May 4 and was booked into the Lucas County Jail.
While the legal process moves forward, there is a glimmer of relief for the family. The boy’s mother confirmed that her son is “doing good” and is “healthy” as he continues his recovery. Marshall is scheduled to appear in court this Wednesday, May 13.
