SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 63-year-old Mount Dora man died on Saturday morning following a nearly head-on collision with a tractor-trailer on State Road 471 in Sumter County, according to a preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 11:17 a.m. on SR-471, north of the intersection with State Road 50.
The FHP report states that the Mount Dora man was driving a Toyota Prius traveling southbound on SR-471. A tractor-trailer, driven by a 32-year-old Hialeah Gardens man, was traveling northbound on the same road.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the southbound Toyota Prius crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane, where it struck the tractor-trailer nearly head-on.
The driver of the Prius was transported to an area hospital but later succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the incident.
