MSNBC contributor Paola Ramos on Monday expressed alarm over former President Donald Trump’s significant support among Hispanic voters because of his pledge to conduct mass deportations if reelected.

Vice President Kamala Harris is leading Trump 54% to 40% among Hispanic voters, according to a national NBC News/Telemundo/CNBC poll conducted from Sept. 16-23. Ramos’ segment on “Ana Cabrera Reports” followed MSNBC national political correspondent Steve Kornacki breaking down the polling and two Hispanic women in Nevada telling MSNBC national correspondent David Noriega they appreciated Trump’s handling of the economy during his presidency.

“Look, I think the Democrats are seeing these numbers, the tendency’s to say that they’re winning the Latino vote, right? That’s the story. But I do think the alarming part of everything that we just heard is that someone like Donald Trump, that is promising mass deportations, can even poll close to 40%,” Ramos said. “And so the way to explain some of the things we just heard is that Trump is really, really tapping into this economic grievance, or this racial and ethnic grievance that a lot of Latinos are feeling, particularly men, and I think that’s part of the appeal.”

According to a recent Scripps News/Ipsos poll, Trump’s mass deportation policy has the support of voters, including 86% of Republicans, 58% of independents, and 25% of Democrats.

Moreover, over 50% of Hispanic Americans support “a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S. illegally,” according to a CBS/YouGov poll conducted from June 5-7.

“I think what Trump is doing really well is really invoking a sort of discomfort amongst some Latino men that are discomforted at the idea of these sort of gender norms changing, these sexual norms changing … So I think they’re playing with a lot of the transphobia, a lot of the LGBTQ culture wars, they’re playing with this idea that Trump is the man that will sort of take back the United States to this traditional country, take people back to those norms,” Ramos added. “And I think among a small group of Latino men, that really resonates.”

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten on Monday asserted Trump is polling strongly with “working class voters,” such as “voters of color” who are “non-college graduates.”

“You go back four years ago, look at that, Joe Biden won that group by 45 points. Look at where Kamala Harris’ support is today. She’s still leading amongst that group, but that lead is down 17 points to just 28 points,” Enten said.
