MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell claimed that Maricopa County, Arizona’s vote-counting procedures were “some of the best in the country” Monday, despite issues with tabulation machines during in-person voting on Nov. 8.

“Let’s talk about what we’ve learned from, for instance, what’s happened out in Maricopa County,” Mitchell said to MSNBC reporter Mark Murray. “What’s left out there in terms of how the vote keeps, you know, coming in, despite all of what has been said by Donald Trump and other election deniers, and now beginning to be also Kelli Ward who’s falling behind you know, Katie Hobbs, but for the governor’s race, Maricopa County has some of the best vote counting processes because of past problems.”

“We saw this in 2018, we saw it in 2020, and we’re seeing again in 2022,” Murray said. “And what ends up going on is there’s this ping pong of like, where the votes are in particular counties and even in counties like Maricopa and that’s the Phoenix area. You end up having Republican pockets and Democratic pockets and then different kind of vote methods.”

Over 20% of the tabulation machines in Maricopa County malfunctioned during the Nov. 8 elections, prompting an apology from local officials. Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake blasted the process, claiming she would fix the issues if elected.

“This is incompetency. I hope it’s not malice,” Lake said on Nov. 8. “But we are going to fix it, we are going to win, and when we win there’s going to be a ‘come to Jesus’ for elections in Arizona. There’s going to be a ‘come to Jesus.’”

Lake currently trails Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, 50.5% to 49.5%, with 93% of the votes in, according to the New York Times.

“What Andrea Mitchell said is extraordinarily at odds with reality,” Harmeet Dhillon, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of the Center for American Liberty, told the Daily Caller News Foundation, noting Maricopa County’s apology for the vote center issues.
