Authorities in Pima County, Arizona, have escalated their search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, after new evidence suggested her disappearance was not voluntary.
During a Monday morning press briefing, Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that investigators are now treating the elderly woman’s home as a crime scene.
The details released so far paint a troubling picture. Sheriff Nanos told reporters that while Nancy Guthrie’s mind is “sharp as a tack,” her limited mobility makes it physically impossible for her to have wandered away. He emphasized that specific evidence found inside the residence indicates she was taken against her will, though he declined to elaborate on whether there were signs of a forced entry or a struggle.

The situation is further complicated by Nancy Guthrie’s health, as she requires daily medication that she currently does not have.
The FBI has officially joined the investigation, working alongside local deputies to track down leads. Savannah Guthrie has traveled to Arizona to be with her family and released a brief statement thanking the public for their support while maintaining that their sole focus is her mother’s safe return.
Sheriff Nanos made a direct plea to the community, asking residents to stay vigilant and record any suspicious activity or sightings.
“What I really need is the community’s help,” he stated, urging anyone who sees someone matching Nancy’s description to take a photo or video and contact the department immediately.
