Senator Cory Booker did not pull any punches during his appearance on “Meet the Press” Sunday morning, calling for total transparency regarding the Democratic Party’s 2024 loss and welcoming a crowded field for the next presidential cycle.
Speaking with moderator Kristen Welker, the New Jersey Democrat addressed reports that former Vice President Kamala Harris is privately pushing the Democratic National Committee to release its “autopsy” report of the failed 2024 campaign.
Despite initial promises from the DNC chair to make those findings public, the committee has recently appeared to hesitate.
Booker, however, was clear: “Yeah, release the autopsy,” he said, though he pivoted quickly to the urgency of upcoming elections. “If there’s not enough reason to vote, the president’s stripping away our health care for millions of Americans… Fine, DNC, release it. They should do that. But the most important thing is for people to get out and vote in record numbers.”

The conversation shifted to the future of the party and whether Harris remains the strongest choice for 2028. Booker suggested that the lack of a competitive process in the last cycle was a mistake.
“I think that it was a disservice to Kamala Harris that we did not have a primary in the last election,” Booker told Welker. “I hope we have the most robust ’28 primary there is, with a lot of great leaders involved in that primary, so that the Democratic Party can choose who’s going to be their standard bearer.”
Booker expressed high confidence in the Democrats’ ability to retake the House of Representatives, framing the current political climate as a referendum on the sitting president. He argued that a vast majority of Americans—”75%, 80%,” by his estimate—are dissatisfied with rising prices and “disastrous wars.”
The Senator saved his sharpest critiques for President Trump’s foreign policy, specifically regarding the ongoing stalemate with Iran. Booker claimed the current administration’s approach has left the U.S. in a “trap” that has cost billions of dollars and, more importantly, American lives.
“Donald Trump himself is an embarrassment on the world stage,” Booker said. “I hear it from allies all around the world… the people that are paying the price was American military, hundreds injured, 14 lives lost, and the American people collectively.” He warned that without a clear exit strategy, the economic and military “pain” would continue for months to come.
