The Senator claims the president has broken promises of transparency and accountability on the sensitive matter.
Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) leveled a sharp new accusation Sunday against the Trump administration, claiming it is “not providing transparency, accountability, or honesty” in relation to the files of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Booker characterized the situation as “another really painful example of Donald Trump looking America in the eye and lying.”
The Senator highlighted what he sees as a profound irony, noting the president’s previous public statements on the matter.

“He created this crisis,” Booker said, referring to past promises of fairness and transparency. “He told the American public that what’s going on here has not been fair, transparent, or having any accountability. And now that he’s in office, he is not providing transparency, accountability, or honesty about what’s going on.”
Booker’s comments come amid a growing and unusual bipartisan effort in Congress to force the release of the Epstein files. He expressed his support for these efforts, which have seen Republicans like Congressmen Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene join Democrats in demanding action.
The New Jersey senator voiced hope that this emerging “backbone” among some Republicans would extend to other areas of the administration’s policies.

When asked by host Kristen Welker about a proposal by Massie and Greene to publicly read a list of names compiled by survivors, Booker affirmed his belief that Congress should act “in a bipartisan way, to create accountability and transparency here.”
The push to release the files has gained significant traction, with survivors of Epstein’s abuse speaking out and urging lawmakers to support a new bill aimed at forcing the disclosure of all unclassified records.
