New Jersey Teen Surrenders Outside Home After Grandmom Found Dead With Knives In Face And Neck

An 18-year-old New Jersey man remains in custody without bail after allegedly stabbing his 69-year-old grandmother to death inside their Jackson Township home earlier this week.

Louis Brown faces charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon following the death of Darlene Brown, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jackson Township police officers arrived at the residential building on Justin Way around 7 a.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call reporting a murder. Upon arrival, officers encountered Louis Brown standing at the front doorway. Authorities stated that Brown stepped outside the building with his hands raised and surrendered immediately.

Inside an upstairs bedroom, investigators discovered Darlene Brown’s body. According to the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victim suffered at least eight stab wounds to her head and neck. Police reported finding two knives still protruding from the body—one in her face and one in her neck.

Detectives tracking the crime scene noted extensive evidence of violence throughout the home, including bloodstains on the carpet, blood inside a bathroom sink, and blood spatter on the walls. Investigators recovered several items from the home, including clothing, towels, bedding, and additional weapons. A search of the teenager’s bedroom uncovered 11 more knives, while another knife was found between the nightstand and the bed in the victim’s room.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the subsequent investigation revealed that Louis Brown was the person who dialed 911. During the emergency call, the caller first told the dispatcher he was calling “for a murder” before changing the phrasing to state that “somebody was murdered.” Police allege that Brown confirmed the victim was dead during the call and answered “yea” when dispatchers asked if he was the responsible party. He also allegedly told the dispatcher that he had been drinking and that knives were the only weapons present in the house.

Court details from a detention hearing held on Friday shed light on the days leading up to the killing. School officials informed investigators that Louis Brown had recently made threatening comments about wanting to kill people, accompanied by a hand gesture mimicking a firearm.

A neighbor told police she heard “blasting loud music” coming from the home around 1 a.m. the night before the body was discovered, noting that the volume was highly unusual for the area.

Family dynamics and recent behavioral changes were also noted in investigative documents. Family members indicated that Louis Brown lived with his grandmother for most of his life and maintained little contact with other relatives. The victim’s daughter told law enforcement that she spoke with the teenager a few days before the incident, noting that he seemed withdrawn and “did not seem to be himself.”

Brown is currently held at the Ocean County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
