A New Jersey welfare check last week led to the discovery of a young woman’s body. Adeline Alfred, 29, was found dead in her bedroom on the first block of Bradford Avenue in Hamilton, prompting a four-day manhunt that ended with the arrest of her boyfriend.
The investigation began around 7 a.m. on March 24, 2026, when Hamilton officers arrived at the apartment to check on Alfred’s well-being.
Upon entering the residence, police located her unresponsive in a bedroom. Authorities noted that Alfred appeared to be the victim of a physical assault, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case moved quickly as investigators identified 29-year-old Carlos Pean as a suspect. Detectives confirmed that Alfred and Pean were in a relationship prior to the incident.

On March 28, 2026, the search for Pean concluded when he was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. He now faces a charge of first-degree murder.
While an arrest has been made, the Mercer County Homicide Task Force is continuing to gather evidence. They are asking the public for assistance in filling in the timeline of events.
