Unresponsive Swimmer Pulled from Intracoastal Waterway at Bayside Park
CLEARWATER, Fla. – What began as a peaceful afternoon at Sand Key’s Bayside Park took a tragic turn today when a 51-year-old New York man was pronounced dead following a water rescue.
Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue units rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call just after 4 p.m. this afternoon.

Family members discovered the man floating unresponsive in the Intracoastal Waterway and immediately pulled him to shore. Onlookers on the sand quickly began attempting life-saving measures. Upon arrival, Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel took over these critical efforts.
The man was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Authorities have not yet released his identity.
