Newsom Takes Shot At DeSantis Over Special Olympics; Pushaw Shares Some Thoughts

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom is mismanaging his state so badly that last September, 38 percent of voters were ready to boot him in favor of a conservative talk-radio host.

The satire website The Babylon Bee joked that Newsom was U-Haul’s best salesman and then in January, the company in fact announced that it had a truck deficit because so many people were fleeing the Golden State.

Yet Newsom still finds time to lecture his red-state counterparts about their alleged shortcomings. Most recently, that included Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

On Friday, Newsom tweeted a story by the liberal news website Salon that accused DeSantis of “bullying” the Special Olympics to not vax athletes.

“Ron DeSantis’ values on full display: Bullying. The. Special. Olympics,” Newsom posted along with the story.

DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw was not having it. She countered that the organizers of the Special Olympics were actually the bullies for forcing the athletes to get COVID-19 vaccines.

That is until the Florida Department of Health threatened a $27.5 million fine for requiring the athletes to obtain a vax “passport.”

“Wrong. The only ‘bullies’ here are the organizers who tried to force athletes with complex medical needs to take shots, even ignoring medical exemptions. Governor DeSantis stepped in to defend the athletes, and now we’re having an inclusive Special Olympics in Florida!” Pushaw tweeted in reply to Newsom on Saturday.

Shortly afterward, she added, again directed at Newsom, “Sit this one out. Governor DeSantis stood up to Covidian bullying to ensure that 70 Special Olympians can compete despite not being vaccinated. Meanwhile — your Covid bullying has driven hundreds of thousands of Californians out of your state, including myself.”

“Also, your wife is a vaccine skeptic, so maybe you should ask her how she feels about people with special needs & complex medical conditions being FORCED to take shots in order to compete in the special Olympics? I doubt she would stand for that, if it involved your own family?” Pushaw tweeted.
