According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a newspaper carrier was struck and killed by his own van early Sunday morning.

Troopers said the 76-year-old man was delivering newspapers along Oak Bend Place in Sumter County around 5:45 a.m. when he stopped and exited the vehicle.

Investigators say the man failed to place the van in park, and it began to roll. The man was struck by an open door and fell to the ground.

Troopers say the man died as a result of his injuries. Authorities did not release additional information.
